I got back into an airplane on July 14th, so to speak. I had a commercial flight from Islip to BWI. Since it was such a short flight, 55 minutes, we didn't climb all that high. I was lucky enough to have picked the right side of the aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, to sit on. This seemed to give me the best views. From a combination of local knowledge, looking at Google Earth, and actual flight experience, I was able to pick out many landmarks on the trip.
After takeoff we made a sweeping right hand turn which took us out over the Great South Bay of Long Island. I could see Robert Moses Causeway and almost all of Fire Island. After we left the New York area the next landmark was Cape May, New Jersey. We flew over the area and I could clearly see the Cape May Airport and the city itself. After that it was Easton Airport, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the City of Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy, the War Memorial on Route 450, all of the bridges in the Annapolis area, and the Francis Scott Key Bridge. All of this before landing at BWI. I must admit that I seem to be a more nervous flyer now than before I started learning. But the trip made me even more anxious to get back into training. I should get my other test results next week. Despite that there still has not been any decision from FAA Aeromedical. ???
